Sapphire Series Women's Football
Round 2 South – 22nd February 2014
Team Briefing
Hello all,
Here is the briefing for the Sapphire Series Round 2 – Southern Conference Tournament, Portsmouth, 22nd March 2014
Teams Entered in Round 2 (SSC) Portsmouth:
Portsmouth DestroyersSouthampton Stags
Kingston HorseHertfordshire Tornadoes
Competition Format:
The format will be confirmed on the day once all teams have actually arrived and are officially registered. The likely scenario is that this will be a round-robin competition with all teams playing three games of 2 x 15 minute halves. This will mean three rounds of games with two games running concurrently. Games will begin at 13:00, 14:00 and 15:00 and finish will be around 16:00.
Player eligibility
All players must be female and aged 16+ at the time of playing. Payers must be registered to BAFA and hold suitable insurance cover (see later). Players aged 16 and 17 must have consent from a parent or guardian to play (see player registration form).
Game Outcomes and Points Structure
All tied games will be decided by a quick-fire overtime shoot-out at end of normal time. Shoot-out is one possession each from the 5 yard, no-run line (like extra point) counting as 1 point. No two-point option is possible. Teams continue to play until one has a higher score after equal possessions. If a team on defense first scores through fumble recovery or interception then the game is immediately over and they have won. They do not need to take their possession.
Teams will be awarded points based on their finishing position within the tournament:
1st Place - 12pts
2nd Place - 10pts
3rd Place - 8pts
4th Place - 6pts (Teams finishing last always receive 6 points)
Tie Breakers for tournament ranking
If teams have equal number of wins within the tournament, ranking will be decided by the head-to-head result between the teams.
Schedule:
11:00 - Teams should arrive and will be allocated changing rooms (some sharing may be necessary).
11:30 – Deadline for all player registrations, rosters and tournament fees to be completed
11:45 – Tournament draw
12:00 – Teams have access to practice field
13:00 – Games begin
16:00 – (approx.) Games finish, change and depart.
Equipment for players:
All players must wear full equipment as detailed in the rules:
- Helmet
- Shoulder pads
- Knee, thigh, hip and coccyx pads
- Gum shields
Any eye glasses worn must be unbreakable plastic sports glasses.
Field surface and playing areas:
The field is an outdoor 3G all-weather playing surface suitable for just about any kind of football type shoe with studs or cleats etc. Trainers can be used but if the field is wet it can be slippery on plain rubber soles.
There will be two playing fields marked within an area relatively close to each other, so care and caution must be taken during play and whilst moving between the fields.
Sideline facilities, team areas and practice:
Teams will be allocated a half-field for their warm-up period. Teams mst only practice or warm-up in these designated areas. In the interest of safety, no activity (including casual ball throwing) may occur around the edges of the fields or in any other area unless so designated by the organisers.
Please would all teams take not to keep their sidelines as tidy as possible. There is no team restraining line and so coaches and players often get right on the sideline and leave equipment close to the filed are. This is dangerous and interferes with the officiating of the game.
Please also consider keeping your sidelines and the field area clear to improve the visual image of the event. We will again have some high-quality photography taking place and would like to ensure the pictures presne the most professional image possible.
Changing rooms and toilets will be accessible throughout the tournament.
Competition Fees:
Team tournament fee is £40. This is the standard across all Sapphire Series Tournaments, £40 per tournament for all teams, including the host team.
Player fee is £1 BAFA fee and £7 insurance fee. All payable on the day, so please ensure you bring cash with you! Note, players active in women’s football last year may well have paid already. Students may well have their own insurance through their university.
Players who registered for the first tournament do NOT need to supply another player form. They are now registered to your team.
Team Roster and Registration Forms:
Teams must complete a team roster for each tournament to be submitted to the organisers before the competition begins.
Filming and Photography
All persons involved with the Sapphire Series should be aware that filming and photography will be a part of every event. Photography for publicity and filming for coaching purposes will be common practice and teams will be entitled to film games.
Minimum Players:
Teams should have a minimum of seven players able and ready to play at the start of the tournament. If a team drops to less than five players available for a game, games will be forfeited. It is not possible to play with less than five.
