For all those who fancy seeing some pro football but can't wait for the NFL, the Canadian Football league starts this weekend. You can watch full games on demand here: watch.tsn.ca/cfl-games-on-demand/Canadian Football is something I discovered when I was in Montreal a couple of years ago. For those that don't know, the major differences from our game are that there are only 3 downs (so you see a lot more passing), there's unlimited motion, no fair catches (but there's a "halo" rule), if you don't return kicks out the endzone you concede a single point, and the field is 150 yards, 110 yards goal line to goal line with 20 yard endzones (hence the reason your clip has a 55 on it if you didn't know). Also open field kicking is still legal so you occasionally see crazy situations like this ;D: www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5BFaykcxGg

Canadian football is absolutely brilliant and if there were any justice in the world, it'd be the dominant gridiron code.

Of course, that would mean most games in this country would be played on 70 yard fields.

Must make things a tad inconvenient inside the 2 yard line

Most of the BUAFL games we see are basically Canadian games - i.e. multiple motion going forward and 12 men on the field. Also, if we adopted the "rouge" (the single point) it would be the most popular form of scoring. It's only the teams in Alberta that get the biggest crowds but its gonna be interesting to see the TV ratings. The fans in Montreal dont know jack about football - its a hockey town and Toronto prefers the Bills to the Argos unless they're winning.
