Just watching a Big 12 game and of course that Conference has eight officials on the field. It occurred to me. It occurred to me to wonder what promotion chances to NFL the extra official has (or hasn't) given there might be no corresponding position in the NFL? I wondered about the 'Centre Judge'? (The guy with the big 'C' on his back) maybe moving up to umpire because the field positions look similar, but then again, he probably doesn't have the same responsibilities as an NFL umpire.

After a while the NFL may also adopt the CJ. Its premise was for increased player safety and given the emphasis the NFL current has it may move to that to. I think though you will need the NCAA guys to gain a number of years experience at the position before they would move it to the NFL. I guess the rest of the crew would also need to be used to working 8 man stuff as well.
Didnt the NFL experiment with 8 man in this years preseason? I may be wrong on that, but I am sure i saw something about it.

I believe they were trialling the Middle Judge position this year. In the past they've looked at the Deep Judge position.
